Two Loops & a Hooey – Winter Olympic Edition

Posted by dedfischer on February 20th, 2010 under Uncategorized

A little known fact about me is that I was the Texas 4-H air pistol state champion in what I recall as about the 7th grade.  Impressive, you say?  Well, it's kind of a funny story in a way.  My shooting abilities were fostered under a 4-H program that literally spit out Olympic hopefuls.  We might have had as many as 2 or 3 shooters qualify for the Olympic Trials in a given year.  It

Two Loops & a Hooey – Pioneer Edition

Posted by dedfischer on February 7th, 2010 under Football

This is a new feature I'll try to do a better job of keeping up with this offseason.  The Cheerleader of the Week gig kind of got old.  I still looked at pictures, but I ran out of material quickly.  Since I can't sleep past 6:30 anymore, Sunday mornings will serve well for the matter. It's kind of a stupid, interesting or funny story how I came up with that name.  I'll tell you how it

Corn Tortillas: A Decade’s Dip in the Red Sea

Posted by chicagottu on January 20th, 2010 under Football

At the start of the past decade, the Nebraska Cornhuskers sat at the top of college football, ranking in at numero uno (For those of you who only took French, that’s Spanish for Bad Ass). Our very own Red Raiders had the privilege of facing this highly-touted squad at the Jones in 2000, back when the Air Raid was still very much in its infancy. I clearly remember these Eric Crouch-led Cornholes thundering over us to

The 2009 TR All Big 12 Team

Posted by dedfischer on December 6th, 2009 under Football

We've all had our laughs at the Coach's and AP conference honor teams.  Now, that the season has wrapped up, it's time to reflect on what actually transpired on the field of play.  I'll start off with a few thoughts: - The level of QB play was down across the board primarily as a result of the shittiest year for OL play that I can recall in this league. - Another reason for the downward spiral of Johnny

OU Post-Mortem: Anatomy of Coherent Offense

Posted by dedfischer on November 22nd, 2009 under Football

This was somewhat of a bittersweet victory for me.  Watching us pound on the worn out Sooner front in the 4th quarter was something I underestimated us being able to accomplish to the extent we did.  All season, I've seen this OL winning more battles upfront in the run game than previous Leach teams.   We've shown some signs of being a very effective running team in almost every matchup.  We've just never really stayed committed to it.  You'll notice signs

OU Gameplan: Tech Offense

Posted by dedfischer on November 18th, 2009 under Football

The Sooner defense creates some considerable issues for Tech in generating forward progress.  The things we did well last week to score points may not be something we can lean on as an option for winning.  We could have continued running the ball between the guards and WR hitch screens against OSU.  We didn't commit to it for any substantial amount of time, but the drives that we did yielded points.  OU happens to be built to stop

Post Spring Retort

I was extremely busy the week after the Red & Black Game and had to serve a stint in Paterson, NJ.  I love Paterson, and it's not just because I get to fly into Newark to get there.  Paterson is an interesting melting pot of diversity, which over the years has served as a landing pad for a large immigrant population as real estate prices soared in New York City.  Driving through downtown Paterson, you'll notice

Chuck Carlton of the DMN, has nice little blurb about Brian Bosworth performing CPR on what I assume was a choking individual.

The Golf Prick

Posted by dedfischer on April 9th, 2009 under Uncategorized

The Masters is upon us and every casual golf exhibitionist in your workplace is the world's biggest fan of the sport this week.  Hunter, a 2 handicap, has taken the initiative to handle the finances and operations of your company  pool this year.  The first time I ever heard the term "Golf Prick" used was by a former co-worker and still good friend.  We worked as commercial credit analysts together at a large bank in Dallas, TX.  I asked

Witches Invade Norman (and Lawrence)

Now, I'm fully aware of Quanah Parker's creation of the Peyote Religion as a coping mechanism for the depression of being exiled to Oklahoma.  Anna Holloway has gone to new extremes by turning to witchcraft, or "Wicca".  It is not something that anybody converts you to,” Holloway said. “We don’t run around converting people because there wouldn’t be any point to it. Either you get it or you don’t and if you get it, you
