Stupid Neutral-Site Games That Would Never Happen

Posted by chicagottu on January 21st, 2010 under Football

So the hot new thing in sports is to host sporting events at unlikely venues. Last year I attended the Blackhawks vs RedWings game on New Year’s Day at Wrigley Field. Aside from being ultra-pricey, it was pretty cool. (Thank you wasted Southside-Irish guy for smuggling in that bottle of Admiral Nelson. Genius.) Actually, now that I think about it, this isn’t really anything new. The NFL has played in Mexico and is playing across the

The 2009 TR All Big 12 Team

Posted by dedfischer on December 6th, 2009 under Football

We've all had our laughs at the Coach's and AP conference honor teams.  Now, that the season has wrapped up, it's time to reflect on what actually transpired on the field of play.  I'll start off with a few thoughts: - The level of QB play was down across the board primarily as a result of the shittiest year for OL play that I can recall in this league. - Another reason for the downward spiral of Johnny

Post Spring Retort

I was extremely busy the week after the Red & Black Game and had to serve a stint in Paterson, NJ.  I love Paterson, and it's not just because I get to fly into Newark to get there.  Paterson is an interesting melting pot of diversity, which over the years has served as a landing pad for a large immigrant population as real estate prices soared in New York City.  Driving through downtown Paterson, you'll notice

The Golf Prick

Posted by dedfischer on April 9th, 2009 under Uncategorized

The Masters is upon us and every casual golf exhibitionist in your workplace is the world's biggest fan of the sport this week.  Hunter, a 2 handicap, has taken the initiative to handle the finances and operations of your company  pool this year.  The first time I ever heard the term "Golf Prick" used was by a former co-worker and still good friend.  We worked as commercial credit analysts together at a large bank in Dallas, TX.  I asked

SI/Rivals Ranks the Big 12 Coaches

Posted by dedfischer on April 1st, 2009 under

Tom Dienhart of Rivals ranks the Big 12 coaches on SI.com.  Hard to disagree with much on this list outside of Mike Gundy.   I haven't quite figured out why everyone thinks he sucks.  The Bill Young coup d' etat in the offseason should at least warrant a move past the Shermanator and the Hawk.

Lawn & Gardening

Posted by dedfischer on March 25th, 2009 under Uncategorized

I've lightly touched on this subject before at Barking Carnival, but since it's the offseason, we'll go into a little more depth.  Let's say we're running a lawn & garden service.  We've got 5 employees and each can only carry one tool at a time.  Our options are a lawnmower, a rake, a hoe, and a trowel.  We currently have 2 lawnmowers and 3 of everything else at our disposal.  We want the ability to mow

LSR Top 100 Thoughts

Posted by dedfischer on March 5th, 2009 under Recruiting

Geoff Ketchum has released the latest Top 100 Recruit rankings after the final wave of commits settled on UT.  Personally, I don't think this list is any more or less credible than any other list, and there has to be a lot of work that goes into simply gathering such an item.  It's impossible to be completely accurate as you're rating an inexact science.  The list is notoriously viewed as biased towards Texas, but I don't

Good find by our friends over at Oread Boom Kings.  I'm not positive, but it appears this guy might be reading off a script.  Guy could use some new writers.  I am eagerly anticipating papadoc's response to this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CvvEg0Cs4iE

NFL Draft: Bang for the Buck

Posted by dedfischer on February 23rd, 2009 under

Results are starting to come in from the NFL Combine and only DBs remain.  I'm a relatively cheap individual and don't like overpaying for anything.  On a limited budget, here are the guys I like based on where they might be available: Lydon Murtha, OT, Nebraska - If you haven't been paying attention, this guy is putting up one of the top 10 all time performances for an OL in Combine history.  Nebraska had one of

NFL Draft Thoughts – Big 12

Posted by dedfischer on February 21st, 2009 under

After browsing through the Sports Illustrated Top 50 Big Board this morning, I've had a few thoughts about some guys I've seen play. 1.  Michael Crabtree, WR, Texas Tech - We're very familar with this guy and he's the surest thing to be an impact player that I've ever seen come through Lubbock.  He's not as fast as Andre Johnson and will have more trouble separating.  Crab doesn't have the ball skills or hands of
