Recruiting Worm Turning with Backyard Talent

Posted by dedfischer on December 22nd, 2009 under Football

I'm talking about Clay McGuire and Lincoln Riley to clarify for Tech fans.  With almost 2 recruiting classes under their belts, it's becoming apparent that Mike Leach has found a couple of ace closers for the recruiting trail.  McGuire has been particularly effective at picking up where Seth Littrell left off in the Oklahoma market.  Even more impressive may have been his theft of Abilene's Will Ford and Wichita Falls' Eric Ward from the Sooner commit list last

Pre-Spring Starters: Dreams Do Come True

Posted by dedfischer on December 21st, 2009 under Football

If I had been given one wish for this recruiting class, it would have been for Ruff to dart and bag the country's #1 rated Juco DE.  Scott Smith is that guy per Rivals and has signed with Tech as a spring enrollee proving what most of us knew already, that Jesus is a Red Raider.  Former Tennessee DT Donald Langley signed as well and will enter the mix with Pearlie Graves to replace Richard Jones.  Not

The 2009 TR All Big 12 Team

Posted by dedfischer on December 6th, 2009 under Football

We've all had our laughs at the Coach's and AP conference honor teams.  Now, that the season has wrapped up, it's time to reflect on what actually transpired on the field of play.  I'll start off with a few thoughts: - The level of QB play was down across the board primarily as a result of the shittiest year for OL play that I can recall in this league. - Another reason for the downward spiral of Johnny

Baylor Post-Mortem: Season in the Books

Posted by dedfischer on December 1st, 2009 under Football

I'm going to use this space on the interweb to do a little eight-balling with regards to our future.  Like many others, I correctly predicted an 8-4 finish for this ball club and I really felt it might be an overachieving 8-4 season.  What it turned out to be by most public opinion is an underachieving 8-4 team.  Now, that naturally comes with a hint of disappointment, but I'm pretty sure I'm more comfortable with

Baylor Gameplan: Offense & Defense

Offense I'm really hopeful that we've got this figured out.  OU, Texas and A&M averaged 265 yards rushing on the Baylor defense.

Measuring Success

Most defensive coordinators of quality, I believe, will spend the majority of practice time preparing to stop the tendencies of an opponent's offense.  These tendencies are typically classified by down and distance.

OU Post-Mortem: Anatomy of Coherent Offense

Posted by dedfischer on November 22nd, 2009 under Football

This was somewhat of a bittersweet victory for me.  Watching us pound on the worn out Sooner front in the 4th quarter was something I underestimated us being able to accomplish to the extent we did.  All season, I've seen this OL winning more battles upfront in the run game than previous Leach teams.   We've shown some signs of being a very effective running team in almost every matchup.  We've just never really stayed committed to it.  You'll notice signs

OU Gameplan: Tech Offense

The Sooner defense creates some considerable issues for Tech in generating forward progress.  The things we did well last week to score points may not be something we can lean on as an option for winning.  We could have continued running the ball between the guards and WR hitch screens against OSU.  We didn't commit to it for any substantial amount of time, but the drives that we did yielded points.  OU happens to be built to stop

OSU Post-Mortem: All Heart & Another Loss

Posted by dedfischer on November 16th, 2009 under Football

You know, overall, I've come to peace with this Red Raider football team.  At one time, I told someone I would die a happy man, if I ever saw Tech in a Cotton Bowl and I didn't care how it happened.  That happened for me when I was 17 years old.  I next told someone I would pass away in pleasant demeanor, if we ever had a 10-win season.  Human nature dictates that the next step

OSU Gameplan: Tech Defense

Most Cowboy can tell you how unfamilar I am with their offense.  They're probably right.  However, I do know our defense and I have seen enough of the Cowboys to know how they'll give us problems.  We've got to have a good day from this unit to come out of Stillwater victorious.  Here's what the Cowboys do that we must take seriously: Cowboy Strategy The majority of Cowboy fans prefer to see their offense get stuffed in
